Christmas unit
Task 1-
For my “How to create” guide I have chosen ‘Family
Favorites’. Some examples of this are films such as: Elf, Arthur Christmas,
Home Alone and Nativity. The narrative tropes of a ‘Family Favorite’ Christmas
film are what you see in the film. So, you would see a Christmas character such
as an elf, Santa or even reindeer. You would also see Christmas décor like a
Christmas tree or baubles, in ‘Family Favorite’ films they must always have to
have a happy ending.
Arthur Christmas:
Trailer URL:
Arthur Christmas is a Hallmark movie that I watched every
Christmas as a child. The reason I chose this one is because there are so many
great examples of hallmark features in this movie. There is a lot of use of
Christmas décor, Christmas music, Multiple Christmas characters such as: Santa,
Elves, Grand Santa, Reindeer and even Arthur Christmas himself. This movie also
ends with a happy ending. The use of Christmas always reminds the viewer that
this is a hallmark Christmas movie even considered a family favorite.
Arthur
Christmas (2011)
American Psycho:
Christmas party scene
URL:
American Psycho is a thriller/horror movie about a
businessman who is also a serial killer in secret. This is not a Christmas
movie however, there is a Christmas party scene which puts it under the same
genre as Die Hard which is “is it really Christmas?”. The references to
Christmas in this movie is just the Christmas party scene which displays
Christmas decorations, people dressing up festive and the Christmas music.
The difference between these two films is that Arthur Christmas
is a Family friendly hallmark Christmas movie that is entirely based around
Christmas. However, American psycho is a horror movie with a reference to
Christmas in one scene of the movie but the same goes for Die Hard which also
put under the tree of ‘is it really a Christmas movie?’.
Task 2-
For my groups Christmas film production, we made a Hallmark
or a ‘Family Favourite’ movie called “Christmas in the office”.
